New World Order

Establishing a New World Order was the ultimate goal for the Templar Order, which they pursued until modern days through their front, Abstergo Industries.
Through it, they sought to control the mind and will of the human race, in order to establish peace.
Ideology
Governed by the belief that humankind needed order, discipline, and control in order to mask its barbaric nature, the Templars planned to create a new world in which they possessed absolute control.[1]
The proclaimed new world seemed to be based on a utopic ideal, a world completely free of bigotry. However, the Templar also emphasized the establishment of a small ruling elite, who would control all aspects of civilization; from education, to military force, and food distribution.[1]
The Templars' rule would be one of so-called "benign tyranny," as although they would eliminate racism and the petty machinations of the warlords and princes of the time, they would simply replace that disordered chaos with their own arbitrary orders.[1]
At its core, the Templars' goal of order was very similar to the Creed of their enemies, the Assassins. However, the latter sought peace through the education of the people, rather than through their control.[1]
History
High Middle Ages

This idea dates back since the Second Crusade at the latest, as even the first waves of Templars in the siege of Acre during the Third Crusade were already fully aware of the plan.[1]
As their very cause was to collect the fantastic sources of knowledge locked in the Pieces of Eden, the Templar Order was equipped with some of the most advanced technology of the periods during which it was active. The machinations of Robert de Sable and Garnier de Naplouse during the Third Crusade included attempts to steal man's freedom of decision, both through an Apple of Eden, and several hallucinogenic drugs and medicines.[1]
Renaissance
Though the Templar Order in Italy was not seeking a New World Order, Cesare Borgia sought to unify Italy under the Borgia banner, from his time as Captain General of the Papal Army in Rome.[2]
In 1511, Prince Ahmet, son of then Sultan Bayezid II, attempted to unite Constantinople, and destroy its culture, having it think with one mind. Ahmet believed that Altaïr's library could lead him to the Grand Temple, whose information would allow him to "destroy the superstitions that keep men divided."[3]
Modern times

In order to fulfill their goal, Abstergo kidnapped two males in 2012, Clay Kaczmarek and Desmond Miles. These two men, dubbed Animus Subjects, were used in order to investigate their genetic memories to locate several Pieces of Eden, which were integral to their plans.[1]
The New World Order was to reach its fullest manifestation through the otherworldly power of the Pieces of Eden, which could be used to control every human being on the planet. To do this, Abstergo planned to launch a Piece of Eden into space on 21 December 2012, in connection with one of their satellites, the Eye-Abstergo.[1]
Through the combined power, the Templars hoped to control the entire human race, and subsequently bring peace to the world.[1]
