Diokles' Armor

Diokles' Armor was a breastplate found in 5th century BCE Greece. It was the personal armor of Diokles when he served in the Athenian military.

Description

Finely made by expert craftmanship, the armor displayed Diokles' high military rank. By 431 BCE, it had become scuffed from much battle damage.[1]

History

Diokles wore this armor in the Athenian military and it saw much battle. However, some time after Diokles' serviced ended, a thief stole the armor from his home. Diokles saw the thief escape with his armor, but was he already too far. Then in 431 BCE, Diokles was killed by bandits. A couple of years later, his eldest son Timotheos, wanting his father to have a proper funeral, requested the misthios Kassandra to retrieve it, and suggested a plain Athenian armor from a blacksmith would also suffice if she could not acquire the original set.[1]
