having he fathers name is not set in stone. its becoming more common for the mothers name to be used particularly in single parent upbringings where the father was either unknown or has left.

i think chrispy's version of events where connor chose to be known by the same name as his mentor is just as plausible as him retaining the surname of this actual father.
