Biography
In 1862, Shaw was Police Constable 72 of Covent Garden's F Division and was assigned to investigate the murders of Boot and a little girl. Due to a witness's description of a robed man that Shaw could not locate, he became the target of jokes among the other cops. One day, while sulking in a bar, he was approached by Abberline, whose case also had to do with the mysterious man. Together, they returned to the slums and found another witness to a man fleeing the scene, one that matched the description of the body of Abberline's investigation.[3]
After the events that transpired at the Metropolitan railway opening, Shaw retired from the force and opened a butcher shop in Stepney Green, though still maintained contact with his friend Abberline. [citation needed]
