Zhang Yizhi (張易之; died 705) was a paramour of Empress Wu Zetian and a prominent member of of the Golden Turtles. Because he wished to leave behind offspring, he secretly fathered the future prime minister Yang Guozhong with a servant girl. In 705, Yizhi and most of the Golden Turtles were killed when the Shenlong Revolution overthrew Wu Zetian's short-lived Zhou dynasty and restored the Tang.[1]
However, the remaining Golden Turtles managed to survive in hiding and gradually re-infiltrate the government.
