The Weddell Sea is part of the Southern Ocean and is situated in the western section of Antarctica on the Antarctic Peninsula.
History
On 4 September 2012, international tensions mounted over a joint oil drilling operation undertaken by the United States and European Union. Several supranational unions opposed the construction, stating that it directly violated the Antarctic Treaty System, with the situation being made worse by the appearance of two naval destroyers in the area for seemingly unrelated reasons. The Abstergo News Wire Services reported on the issue in an email to its subscribers, one of whom was Abstergo Industries' Animus Project head Warren Vidic.[1]
