Thomas de Carneillon (1276 – 1323) was a banker and a Mentor of the French Assassins late in the Middle Ages.
He became a legendary figure among the Assassins for his role in instigating the persecution and eventual downfall of the Templar Order in 1307. During that time, he attempted to steal the Sword of Eden and the Codex Pater Intellectus, from the Templar Grand Master Jacques de Molay.
His efforts were halted by a Templar Knight serving as the Grand Master's advisor, who managed to hide the artifacts before being slain by Carneillon. Despite this, Carneillon's campaign successfully destroyed the Templars' public image, and drove their Order underground.
