A Modest Invitation was a virtual representation of one of Wei Yu's disciple's genetic memories relived through the Animus.
Description
Wei Yu's disciple was invited by Grand General Meng Tian to attend a meeting with him at his residence in Yangzhou City.
Dialogue
The youxia approached the main entrance of the general's residence, where they were greeted by an attendant.
- Wei Yu's disciple: I've come to see general Meng Tian.
The man bowed and pointed the way in.
- Attendant: Ah, the general is receiving other guests, so make yourself comfortable.
The disciple entered the estate, spotting a small table under an ornamented porch.
- Wei Yu's disciple: I should wait for the general over there.
They approached the table and sat by it.
As you near the table, a tense political quarrel between Meng Tian and Zhao Gao draws your attention. Zhao Gao leaves and you see Chu Huan's murderer escorting him. Enraged, you rush to intercept him, but Meng Tian's men mistake your intentions and leap to protect their general.
Four residence guards blocked the student's way out of the residence.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Get out of my way!
- Guard: Put your weapon down!
The soldiers were slaughtered by the youxia. They then attempted to leave the estate in pursuit of Yang Duanhe but were stopped by Meng Tian, who was accompanied by two other soldiers. A fight ensues.
- Meng Tian: Stand down!
- Wei Yu's disciple: You can't let him get away!
- Meng Tian: I said stand down!
As the disciple defeated the soldiers and continued to fight with the general, they tried to convince him to let them pass.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Just let me get to him!
- Meng Tian: I will not let you simply attack a government official!
Don't think that because you beat a Xiongnu commander you can best me. - Wei Yu's disciple: Let me through or I will have to make you.
- Meng Tian: You're welcome to try.
The student managed to wound Meng Tian, though the latter refused to lay down his weapons.
Though you fare well against Meng Tian, he refuses to be defeated and draws from his reserves. He disarms you, but just before he can bring his blade down upon you, the Tianyan Stone around your waist glows brightly, imbuing you with the strength to deflect the oncoming blow with your dagger.
The disciple stood up.
- Meng Tian: That... I recognize that glow. You know the spearmaster Wei Yu?
- Wei Yu's disciple: I am his disciple.
- Meng Tian: We fought side by side against the Xiongnu a long time ago. But what are you doing here?
- Wei Yu's disciple: My village was burned by men wearing the uniform of Qin soldiers, so I came here to investigate. And because of you, the man that destroyed my village still lives. I could have killed him if not for you.
- Meng Tian: You mean you could have gotten yourself killed. That man, Duanhe, was with Zhao Gao, of the royal court. If you had attacked them, you would not be standing here. At least now you have the chance to do it right.
- Wei Yu's disciple: What do you mean?
- Meng Tian: Years ago, when the Xiongnu agreed to our terms of peace, they sent a convey of their people to show their sincerity. They were collateral, in case the Xiongnu broke the truce... and now they have. These Xiongnu are being rounded up in the city. If you want to learn more about Duanhe, that's where you can start.
- Wei Yu's disciple: What does a Qin military commander have to do with the Xiongnu?
- Meng Tian: Let's just say the Xiongnu have "stumbled" upon Qin military information one too many times for my liking.
- Wei Yu's disciple: Why are you telling me this?
- Meng Tian: Though we may not be allies, we at least share a common enemy. That's enough for me. Now go, my courtyard is a mess.
The youxia left the residence.
Outcome
During their visit to Meng Tian's residence, the disciple saw the emperor's advisor being escorted by the responsible for the attack on their village, Yang Duanhe. On their attempt to pursue the man and kill him, they ended up confronting the Grand General himself in combat. After the fight ended in a draw, the two discussed the Qin commander and Meng Tian advised the youxia on how to proceed next.
