Russia did not control Siberia in the late 16th century despite what the lede to its Wikipedia article says. They waged a century-long genocidal expedition to conquer the whole region beginning in the late 16th century but extending throughout the 17th century.

The road leading to Krasnoyarsk

Siberia is a region of Northern Asia, spanning from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean.[1] The entirety of the region was progressively conquered by Russia throughout the 17th century.[2]

History

Russian Assassin Nikolai Orelov traversed Siberia on two important missions: in 1908 to Tunguska and in 1917 to Krasnoyarsk. The Tunguska mission had the objective to retrieve the Imperial Staff of Eden from a Templar facility before it was destroyed. Orelov and his two Assassin companions were ultimately unable to remove the Piece of Eden from the facility in time. Nikola Tesla broadcasted an immense burst of electricity into the facility and the Piece of Eden, creating one of the largest explosions in known history, obliterating the facility and leaving Orelov as the only survivor.[3]

On 15 November 1917, Orelov traveled to Krasnoyarsk to infiltrate the city's asylum and free Khioniya Guseva, a former disciple of Grigori Rasputin who turned on him and tried to kill him. Once found, Orelov noticed how the poor woman was heavily disfigured. In exchange for telling him what had occurred during her assassination attempt, she would get her freedom. Once she fulfilled her end of the deal, Guseva asked the Assassin to put her out of her misery, and so Orelov thrust his Hidden Blade through her heart, killing her.[4]
