"So many stubbornly favor the sword. But this black powder is the future."
―Shima Sakon, on the effectiveness of gunpowder.[src]

Shima Sakon (Japanese: 島 左近; 1540 – 1600) was a Japanese samurai during the Sengoku period. Initially serving the Tsutsui clan, Sakon joined Ishida Mitsunari under the Toyotomi clan.

While many Japanese warlords were hesitant to adopt firearms, Sakon embraced the change and constituted a force of a thousand men equipped with muskets and cannons. At the Battle of Sekigahara on 21 October 1600, Sakon was killed by Yamauchi Taka.
