Saburoemon Hara was a Japanese brothel owner, active during the reign of samurai Toyotomi Hideyoshi.[1]

Saburoemon's main claim to fame was the establishment of Kyoto's pleasure quarters, having suggested to Hideyoshi to gather the courtesans in particular places, rather than leaving the then-chaotic state of sex work alone. These pleasure quarters allowed for more security to the workers and for taxing of the services, which Saburoemon paid to Hideyoshi.[1]
