Ruins of Helike

The Ruins of Helike was a partially destroyed sanctuary located east of Patrai in Achaia, Greece.

By the Peloponnesian War, the site was occupied by a Followers of Ares detachment, who kidnapped various citizens for sacrificial rituals. At some point between 431 and 422 BCE, the ruins was visited by the Spartan misthios, Kassandra, who eliminate the cultists, freed the captives and looted their valuables.[1]

Trivia

  • Historically, Helike was a polis that was submerged by a tsunami in 373 BCE.
