Rosta (died c. 855) was the mother of Eivor, a Viking who raided southern England during the 9th century.

Biography

At the age of nineteen, Rosta and her husband Varin built cairns together on a high cliff near the fjord. At some point after Eivor was born, Rosta taught her how to build cairns themselves and explained to Eivor the importance of cairns as a test of mind and wit.[2]

Behind the scenes

Rosta is a character introduced in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla. She is voiced by Danish actress Cecilie Stenspil, who also provided the voice of Eivor.

Name etymology

The name Rosta is related to the Old Norse word rósta, meaning 'brawl, riot, strife'. It's best known as the byname of Olvir Rosta, a character in the 13th century Orkneyinga saga and thus has also been translated as 'brawler, rioter'.[3]
