River Valley

The River Valley was a simulated environment generated by the Animus representing a number of rivers, including the Hudson, Potomac, Mohawk, and St. Lawrence Rivers, and their settlements located in the north eastern American colonies during the Seven Years' War. This simulation was used when a Helix research analyst at Abstergo Entertainment relived the genetic memories of Assassin turned Templar Shay Cormac in 2014.[1]

History

Despite the notes of explorers such as John Cabot about the gulf of the St. Lawrence River, Jacques Cartier was the first European explorer to sail the river with the aid of the Iroquois who had built their settlements there. He referred the northern area of the river as "Canada", mishearing it from the Huron-Iroquois word Kanata, meaning 'village'.[2]

Since then, other explorers and fur traders opened the territory and the French started to build their settlements, limiting the westward expansion of the British. Threatened, the British clashed with the French, starting the Seven Years' War in 1755.[2]

During the war, the Templar Shay Cormac traveled along the rivers represented by the River Valley to eliminate the Assassin threat and free the Iroquois. He also supported the British frontier against the colonies of the French.[1]

Locations

The River Valley included a number of settlements spanning a large swath of territory from Virginia up to the New York-Canadian border condensed into a much smaller and distorted area.

Behind the scenes

If taken to be an accurate representation of geography, the River Valley is very poor. Relative placement of locations are distorted such as showing Mount Vernon in line with and connected to Sleepy Hollow via a waterway. Additionally many of the locations populating the map seem completely fictional.
