The River Exe is a river in Devonshire, England. The city of Exeter is located nearby the river.

In 878, the Hel-hides rode to the roman ruins on the Exe to meet the Danish kings Oscetel and Appl, who had arrived in the area from Eastern England. The two kings would assist Guthrum's army in providing two secure positions from which to attack Devon,nWiltshire and Winchester.[1]
