The Ptolemaic dynasty was a dynasty of Macedonian Greek descent which ruled the Ptolemaic Kingdom in Egypt during the Hellenistic period. Founded by Ptolemy I Soter, a general who served under Alexander the Great, their rule, which lasted for 275 years from 305 to 30 BCE, was the last dynasty of ancient Egypt before control fell to the Roman Republic.
