Antonio de Ulloa (1716 - 1795) was a Spanish general, prominent scientist, colonial administrator, and the first Spanish governor of Louisiana. He was also a member of the Templar Order, acting primarily as a scientific advisor.
Biography
Louisiana Rebellion
Appointed governor of Louisiana in 1766, de Ulloa faced opposition and resistance from the French colonists of New Orleans, who refused to recognize the policies and laws of the Spanish. Following strict trade restrictions put in place by de Ulloa to benefit the Templars, a rebellion flared up in 1768 from French Creoles who opposed de Ulloa's regime.
Following this, he was forced to leave la Balize where he had taken shelter from the rebels, and was ambushed by the Assassin Aveline de Grandpré. Despite being ordered to kill de Ulloa, Aveline chose to spare his life, in return for a lens used to decipher coded Templar documents and de Ulloa's promise to go into exile.
