Pickering (Old English: Picheringa) is a market town in northern Yorkshire, England.
History
In 876, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan traveled to Picheringa village to find a bereft Halfdan Ragnarsson. Upon her arrival, Eivor spoke with Halfdan, who wondered about the death of his brother, Ivarr. Eivor divulged about her part and asked if Ubba disclosed the information. Still saddened, Halfdan asked Eivor to find Beonton, his dog, and his hammer, as he did not feel well. Eivor agreed and left to find his dog and his hammer.[1]
During her hunt for members of the Order of the Ancients, Eivor garnered five clues that led her to find the Maegester of the Wardens of Law, Reeve Derby. Nearby the waterfall in Picheringa, Derby was present and attended to his duties. Unknown to him, Eivor found him and quickly assassinated him. From his death, Eivor retrieved his medallion and a clue on the Grand Maegester of the Order of the Ancients from Derby's personal effects.[2]
From her travels, Eivor had to find a dead fisherman's wife, Vera, within the village. Finding the wife, Eivor talked with her about her husband's untimely death, as the hands of bandits. Eivor also decided on whether to give the ring found on the fisherman's body to his wife and then left the widow to grieve.[3]
