The Anthion Flowery Well was a well near the Sanctuary of Eleusis in the Sacred Plains of Demeter in Attika, Greece.
According to the myth, this flower-adorned well was where Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture, met the daughters of king Keleos while appearing as an old woman. Keleus welcomed the old woman to stay in his palace, and in return, Demeter taught him the Eleusinian Mysteries.[1] She also taught his son Triptolemos the art of agriculture, and he spread this knowledge throughout the Greek world.[2]
By the time of the Peloponnesian War, the well was tended to by the people living near the Sanctuary, and it was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[3]
