Nāder Shāh Afshār or Nadir Shah (1688 or 1698 – 1747) was the Shah of Iran from 1736 to 1747 and the founder of the Afsharid dynasty.
Biography
In 1739, Nāder Shāh acquired a Piece of Eden in the shape of a diamond when he sacked the Taj Mahal. In awe of its splendor, he named it Koh-i-Noor (Mountain of Light).[1][2]
In 1747, Nāder Shāh was attacked by Assassins led by Salah Bey, the captain of the guard. Although Nāder Shāh was able to kill two of the Assassins, Salah was able to kill the Shah with a sword. The Koh-i-Noor subsequently fell into the hands of Ahmad Shāh, an Afghan chief.[3]
