Mímisbrunnr, or the Well of Mímir, was a sacred well inhabited by the head of Mimir and found at the bottom of the Yggdrasil Tree, in northeastern Jötunheimr. In truth, it was an abandoned project [citation needed] constructed by Isu scientists that ultimately led to the creation of multiple Sages throughout history.
History
During the Isu Era, Mimir was beheaded by his captors, but his friend Odin, with magic, preserved his life and placed Mimir's head at the well, bottom of Yggdrasil, where one would make a payment before using the well's magical waters.[1] Later, Odin, with the help of Hyrrokin, wanted to change his fate of dying at Ragnarök by Fenrir. Mixing the "Mead" within the well's waters, Odin soon found himself in need to sacrifice a part of himself for the power of immortality. Thus, Odin took out his own left eye and squeezed its juices into the well. Thus, Odin's sacrifice made sure that the Yggradsil would remember his life. Later, Hyrrokin was thanked as she told Odin that her aid would lead with Suttungr and Gunlodr ousting her from their group but as well to her resolve to save her beloved.[2]
In the Viking Age, Odin's actions were remembered and recalled by those who followed Norse mythology, especially Odin's trials.[3][4]
Behind the scenes
The well was later inhabited by those who were sent to Valhalla, especially a Norse merchant, Thorsteinn Silvertongue, who used the magic waters himself to find out his past and how he came to be in Jötunheimr. [5]
