Ezio Auditore successfully infiltrates into the Castel Sant'Angelo. He finds the Pope and Cesare Borgia in the Castel's apartment.

Dialogue

In the Pope's quarters

  • Cesare: What has happened here?
  • Rodrigo: I don't know what you mean?
  • Cesare: My funds, my troops. Gone.
  • Rodrigo: Financial difficults strike all of us, even those with an army.
  • Cesare: You intend to give me money?
  • Rodrigo: No, I do not.
  • Cesare: Then I will use the Piece of Eden to get what I want. Your help is not necessary.
Cesare picks up an apple from the table nearby and has a bit of it.
  • Rodrigo: That has been made abundantly clear to me. Are you aware that the Baron de Valois is dead?
  • Cesare: No. Did you--
  • Rodrigo: What reason could I possibly have to kill him? Was he planning against me with my "brillant," traitorous, Captain General?
  • Cesare: I do not have to stand for this.
  • Rodrigo: The Assassins murdered him.
  • Cesare: Why did you not stop them?
  • Rodrigo: As if I could. It was not my decision to attack Monteriggioni, it was yours! It is high time you took responsibility for your actions.
  • Cesare: My accomplishments. Despite the constant interferance of failures like you.
Cesare walks towards the door to leave.
  • Rodrigo: You are not going anywhere. I have the Piece of Eden.
  • Cesare: Get out of my way, old man.
  • Rodrigo: I gave you everything and yet it's never enough!

Death of the Pope

Lucrezia Borgia runs into the room and interrupts Cesare and Rodrigo.

  • Lucrezia: Cesare! He intends to poison you!
Cesare tries to spit the apple he had eatten earlier.
  • Rodrigo: You would not listen to reason.
  • Cesare: Father. Do you not see? I control all of this. If I want to live, I live. If I want to take, I take. If I want you to die, you die.
Cesare thrusts the poisoned apple in hand into Rodrigo Borgia's mouth. Rodrigo struggles to release himself.
  • Cesare: Where is the Piece of Eden?
Lucrezia stops Cesare from killing their father.
  • Lucrezia: Stop! I know where it is.
  • Cesare: And you did not tell me ha had taken it? (He hold her by the neck.)
  • Lucrezia: Cesare...It's me, your queen.
  • Cesare: You are my sister. Nothing more. Where is it?
  • Lucrezia: You...never loved me?
  • Cesare: Where is the Apple? Tell me.
Lucrezia spits on his face. He slaps her.
  • Cesare: Tell me!

Rodrigo Borgia

Ezio witnesses the death of Rodrigo Borgia by the hands of his son Cesare Borgia. Ezio moves to find a way into the quarters, while Cesare questions Lucrezia.

  • Ezio: All right, Cesare. I am coming through that window. (To himself.)
  • Cesare: I want the Apple!
Lucrezia continues to cry.
  • Cesare: Am I hurting you?
    Give me the Apple!
    It is mine, not yours.
    Where is the Apple?
She gives in eventually and tells Cesare the location of the artifact.
  • Cesare: Smart decision, little sister.
Cesare leave to retrieve the Apple. Ezio enters the quarters through the open window and approches Rodrigo Borgia, now lying dead on the floor.
  • Ezio: Requiescat in pace. (Rest in peace.) (He closes Rodrigo's eyes.)
  • Lucrezia: I know... I know where that bastard is going. San Pietro (Saint Peters)... The pavilion in the courtyard.
  • Ezio: Thank you.

The Apple

Ezio leave the Pope's quarters to find the artifact. He tries to exit the Castel through it's front gates, however he runs into Cesare on his way out.

  • Cesare: Cazzo.
    Assassino! (Assassin!)
  • Ezio: Cazzo.
  • Cesare: I will come for you later.
He locks Ezio inside the gates. However Ezio tries to find another way out of the Castel. He reaches the rooftop and jumps on to the ramparts to follow Cesare.

Outcome

Ezio reaches Basilica Papale di San Pietro before Cesare and finds out that the Apple is hidden within the structure in the courtyard.

Trivia
