Last Rites is a repressed Cristina Memory in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Description
Shortly after the execution of Giovanni, Federico, and Petruccio Auditore da Firenze, Ezio Auditore and Cristina Vespucci meet in the streets of Florence.
Here, Ezio tells Cristina that he wishes to provide a proper last rites for his dead father and brothers. Upon arriving at the gallows though, they are found to be empty. Ezio then secures the location of the bodies from a nearby guard, and he and Cristina proceed to the river.
Finding the bodies under guard, Ezio sneaks around the soldiers and carries the bodies of his kin to a small boat on the Arno River, after promising Cristina that he would not kill any of the guards. His duty to his family finished, Ezio rejoins Cristina, where he tells her that he wishes to leave the city. Cristina says she wishes she could accompany, but that she cannot, due to her family. Ezio gives her a pendant, saying "we'll always be together" before kissing her and departing.
Dialogue
A Tearful Reunion
Ezio and Cristina embrace in the streets of Florence and both are sad at the news of the death of Ezio's father and brothers.
- Ezio: Thank you for coming.
- Cristina: Of course, of course. Tell me, what can I do?
- Ezio: My family's bodies... I can't just leave them hanging from the gallows. I need to give them last rites. Send them on to the next world...
- Cristina: Capisco. (I understand.) Lead the way, Ezio.
Locating the Bodies
Ezio leads Cristina to the Piazza della Signoria, where the two discover that the gallows are empty. They also spot a lone guard standing near the gallows.
- Ezio: They've already been cut down!
- Cristina: What are we going to do?
- Ezio: Hide yourself. I'm going to have a little talk with that guard.
Cristina hides, and Ezio engages in a fistfight with the guard. Eventually defeating the guard, Ezio proceeds to interrogate him.
- Ezio: Where are the bodies that hung here!?
- Guard: They've already been taken!
- Ezio: Where? Tell me where they are!
- Guard: I don't know! I think they were taking them down to the river to dump them.
- Ezio: No... (calling to Cristina) Cristina! Vieni con me! (Come with me!)
Paying Respects
Ezio leads Cristina to the river, where they see the bodies of Federico, Giovanni, and Petruccio under guard.
- Cristina: What will you do?
- Ezio: Only one thing to do. Kill them--
- Cristina: No! Don't do that. They did nothing wrong--
- Ezio: They follow orders unquestioningly. That makes them--
- Cristina: Ezio!
- Ezio: Va bene. (It's okay.) I'll sneak behind their backs. Get my family, one at a time if I have to, and carry them down to the river.
- Cristina: Be careful.
Cristina departs, leaving Ezio to tend to his family's bodies. Ezio carefully sneaks behind the guards' backs, carefully hiding and retrieving the bodies. Quickly, yet gently, Ezio tenderly carries his loved ones to a small boat docked on a pier at the river.
A Tearful Departure
Later, Ezio finds Cristina and tells her of his plans.
- Ezio: I have to leave the city... Cristina, I want you to come with me.
- Cristina: I want to... But I can't... My family...
Ezio gives Cristina a crest-shaped pendant.
- Ezio: So we'll always be together, Cristina.
- Cristina: Ezio...
They kiss, and Ezio leaves.
Outcome
Ezio gives his family a proper burial and then gives Cristina a pendant to remember him by.
