The Jackdaw

The Jackdaw was a ship captained by the Assassin Edward Kenway, which he obtained with the help of his first mate Adéwalé, during his time as a privateer and pirate.

History

The Ship was part of the Spanish Tresure fleet, it was aquired by Edward Kenway, Adewale and captive pirates during the formers escape from Templars.

The Ship was able to outrun the Spanish fleets and a large hurricane which sank the entire spanish treasure fleet. once clear of the hurrican Kenway decided on the name Jackdaw, after a girl he knew as a child.

Schematics

The Jackdaw was 60 meters long, 48.5 meters high, had a width of 11.9 meters, and had 26 sails. Accompanying this, the Jackdaw initially had six cannons with additional slots for another fifty,[1] and could employ additional upgrades such as four swivel guns, explosive mines, round shot, heated shot, chain shot, and naval rams.[2] It was also equipped with a diving bell for when Edward explored the seafloor.[3]

Trivia

  • Like many other references to the Assassin Order involving avians, a jackdaw is a small, black bird belonging to the crow family. Coincidentally, the color of the bird's feathers themselves could also be a reference to piracy often being symbolized by black.
  • Darby McDevitt mentioned the Jackdaw's name was also a reference to the fable of the Eagle and the Jackdaw.[4]
