Italy (Italian: Italia) was a country located in southern Europe during the second and third millennium, and home to the Italian sect of the Order of Assassins during 13th to 16th Centuries. Italia also served as the birth place of the Renaissance, and had many beautiful cities and towns dotted across the landscape: Venice, Florence, Monteriggioni, Forlì and Rome to name a few.
Despite the ideals of the Renaissance spreading out across all Italy, during this period the nation remained divided into a multitude of city-states and Republics, notables of which included La Serenissima Repubblica di Venezia, and the Papal States. Taking advantage of this division, the Templars attempted to seize control of much of northern Italia during the late 15th century, but were ultimately thwarted in this attempt by Ezio Auditore da Firenze and his fellow Assassins.
