Hyakinthos was a young man living in Attika, Greece, during the 5th century BCE.

During the Peloponnesian War he made his way with his partner Laios to the Sanctuary of Sounion. There, Laios stole a Makedonian bracelet left as an offering to the gods, and gave it to Hyakinthos.[1]

Instead of appreciating the gift, Hyakinthos was appalled by Laios' deed, and threw the bracelet into the sea. The couple began an argument, and soon afterwards, they were approached by the Spartan misthios Kassandra. She had been sent by Xenia, the pirate ruler of Keos, to fetch the bracelet.[1]
