Hrolf, also known as Hrolf the Watcher, was a Norse who lived during the 9th century.

At one point during the 870s he and his Clan members arrived in nothern Northumbria and were promised green lands and lots of food. They captured a fort east of the Brunton Turret along Hadrian's Wall.[1] In the following years all but Hrolf died. He then put himself in charge of lighting the braziers on the wall to fend off the darkness which would otherwise creep into the area.[2]

At one point during the 870s Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir encountered his corpse sitting on a throne atop a wall at the eastern part of Hadrian's Wall after dying in the cold weather.[3]
