Gunpowder magazine was a tower-like building in an isolated area used to store gunpowder in colonial America.
As the gunpowder was highly flammable, strict measures were taken to avoid blowing up the building. These included pocketless clothes, nailless shoes, and tools which were entirely made of wood and copper.[1]
Given their silhouette, the magazines were easily recognizable. This coupled with the gunpowder made the magazines appealing targets for enemies.[2]
