"Degenerate filth. Not so immortal after all, heh?"
―Nikolai Orelov's accomplice, upon seeing Rasputin's corpse.[src]

Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin (Russian: Григорий Ефимович Распутин) (22 January 1869 - 29 December 1916) was a Russian faith healer and courtier to Nicholas II of Russia.

Biography

The Staff

In 1905 Rasputin attended to Alexei Nikolaevich, son and heir apparent of Nicholas II of Russia. His apparent success in treating Alexei's condition led to Rasputin becoming a trusted advisor to the Russian Emperor.[1] Unfortunately this trust was misplaced: Rasputin stole The Staff of Eden from the Romanovs.[2]

The exact circumstances of the theft (including Rasputin's motives) are not clear, but by 30 June 1908 The Staff had been taken to a Templar research facility in Tunguska. The Staff was destroyed (along with the entire facility) by Nikola Tesla and the Assassins.[3] Rasputin subsequently recovered a shard from the destroyed Staff, which he wore as a pendant for the rest of his days.[4]

Guseva's Assassination Attempt

In 1914, Rasputin travelled to his home in Pokrovskoye, Siberia to visit his wife and children, and his disciple Khioniya Guseva joined him. He arranged to meet with Guseva outside the village's church, but after having done so, Guseva charged towards him and slit his stomach. His intestines fell out and he clutched at them, yet he smiled at Guseva. He used the shard around his neck to make her mutilate herself, causing her to be heavily deformed. Rasputin himself healed miraculously.[5]

Death

On 29 December 1916, a group of Russian nobles lured Rasputin into the basement of the Moika Palace and killed him; the exact circumstances remain unclear.[1] It is known that the Assassins were responsible for Rasputin's death, but exactly who amongst the conspirators were members of the order is not known.[6]

In 1917, Rasputin was exhumed by Nikolai Orelov and two accomplices to recover the Staff splinter Rasputin was buried with. The Assassins then cremated the body.[4]
