Girolamo Savonarola (born 1452) is a character in Assassin's Creed II, appearing in the second part of its DLC, the Bonfire of the Vanities.

Description

Girolamo Savonarola was an Italian Dominican priest who became a hermit to the other monks and lived in the city of Florence. He had strongly resisted the Rennaissance, prefering the Medieval Times.

Right after Ezio Auditore da Firenze killed Checco Orsi and was stabbed by the latter, Ezio fell to the ground due to the pain of his wound. Right before he lost conciousness, Savonarola appeared and took the Apple of Eden from him.

After the death of Lorenzo de' Medici, Savonarola used the Apple he had stolen to take over Florence. After having the united city under his banner, he started to destroy all Rennaissance art pieces, due to him wanting to go back to the Medieval times. The Assassins started resisting Savonarola's rule, with Assassins Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Niccolò Machiavelli being the ones to fight against the priest and thwart his plans. Eventually, Savonarola died by the Assassins' hands and Florence was freed from the monk's grasp.

Trivia

  • The first actual time you see Savonarola is after the mission "Holding the Fort" When the Orsi brothers introduce themselves and say that they are also after "The Apple"
