On December 26, 1476, Olgiati, along with his fellow assassins [[Giovanni Andrea Lampugnani]], Lampugnani's servant Franzone, and [[Carlo Visconti]], attended the Mass at [[Santo Stefano]]. After Lampugnani delivered the first blow to Sforza after the latter's arrival, the others followed him. All the assassins except for Lampugnani managed to escape, only to be caught and executed within one week. One of Galeazzo's guards managed to catch and kill Giovanni despite [[Giovanni Auditore da Firenze|Giovanni Auditore]] shouting not to kill him so that he could interrogate him. This failed, and the guard snapped Lampugnani's neck and went over to mourn Galeazzo. Giovanni then want over to Lampugnani's body to search it but found nothing but a bag of coins.

Gerolamo Olgiati was a Milanese government official, and a member of the Templar Order.

He participated in the assassination of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, alongside his co-conspirators, Giovanni Andrea Lampugnani and Carlo Visconti.

Biography

On December 26, 1476, Olgiati attended the Mass at Santo Stefano in Milan, with several of the other assassins hidden in the crowd.[1]

Lampugnani was first to approach Sforza, and stab him with a dagger hidden in his boot. Olgiati quickly followed suit, and stabbed Sforza in the back. At this point, a battle between the assassins and guards commenced.[1]

All the assassins except for Lampugnani managed to escape, only to be caught and executed within a week.[2]
