Frodri was a dwarf who lived in Svartálfaheimr.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Not much was known about Frodri, but his personality was predominately simple-minded. During his travels, Frodri met the jötnar witch Hyrrokin who was traveling within the realm of Svartálfaheimr. Upon their brief meet, Hyrrokin gave Frodri a ring and said that it would give him more good luck the further away he was from her. He was gladdened at this, and eagerly set off expecting to feel its effects soon.[1]

After some time, south of the Old City in the region of Gullnámar, Frodri set up camp on the side of a volcano and cooked bacon. However, the scent attracted a nearby bear that attacked him for the food, and the sudden turn of events convinced Frodri that Hyrrokin had tricked him and given a "cursed ring". The Æsir Havi was also passing through the realm and on hearing Frodri's cries for help, confronted and killed the bear. In gratitude, Frodri enlisted Havi's aid to protect him from the ring's "curse" as he walked to the volcano top to dispose of it.[1]

Along the way, Frodri told Havi of how he acquired the ring and its malign purpose, though Havi noticed that Frodri was simply prone to making poor choices, particularly when the dwarf ate blue roundhead mushrooms before identifying whether they were safe and promptly began vomiting. Reaching the edge of a caldera with Havi, Frodri threw the ring into the lava, but lost his balance in the process. Frodri immediately died within the molten flow, while the ring managed to survive through unknown means.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The character is a nod and loose interpretation of Frodo Baggins, a hobbit and central character in J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy book series, The Lord of the Rings.
