Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros (1436 – 1517) was a Spanish cardinal and statesman. He eventually rose to the rank of Grand Inquisitor under the rule of King Ferdinand II of Aragon.
Like his predecessor Tomás de Torquemada, Cisneros was manipulated into persecuting members of the Assassin Order during his tenure as Grand Inquisitor. After being blamed for the murders of a large number of cardinals, the Assassins sought out and eliminated the real culprits behind the crimes.[1]
