A fox

Foxes are small canine mammals found naturally in Europe, Asia, north Africa, North America, South America and also found in Australia, but in this continent the animal was introduced by humans. Culturally, they are associated with cunning and wit.

During the Renaissance, the Italian Assassin Gilberto dubbed himself "La Volpe", meaning "the Fox";[1] additionally, he owned a tavern in Rome named La Volpe Addormentata, or "The Sleeping Fox" after his namesake.[2]

From the 18th century, the Kanien'kehá:ka Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton hunted foxes for their pelts and tails.[3]

Foxes are notable for being the only predatory animals that flee rather than fight back.
