The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic mosque and major landmark located in the city of Jerusalem. It was built between 689 and 691 CE atop of the Temple Mount, and the landmark was believed to be built upon the final resting place of Islam's founder, Mohammad. As one of the most recognized and important Islamic shrines in the city, the site of the Temple Mount is coveted by the three religions of Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

Trivia

  • Though the dome appears golden in Assassin's Creed, it was not gilded until 1963; it was covered with black lead during the Third Crusade.
  • A View Point was positioned on top of the roof, as the top of the dome itself was inaccessible.
  • Solomon's Temple could be located beneath the Dome of the Rock, since the temple's entrance was somewhere around a building near to the dome.
  • The simulated map of Jerusalem in the second stage of the Animi Training Program took place near to the dome.
