Cusco, formerly known as Cuzco and as Qusqu in the native Quechua, is a city of Peru and the former capital of the Inca Empire from the 13th until the 16th century Spanish conquest.
In 1536, the city then under the control of the Spanish conquistadors was besieged by the forces of Emperor Manco Inca Yupanqui in an attempt to reclaim their lands.
