The whole article is actually poorly written and that last line is actually misleading/erroneous. He didn't betray the Templars because he refused to join them in the first place and told them so explicitly. I will double-check exact details and issues tomorrow.

Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石; 1887 – 1975) was a Chinese political and military leader who served as the leader of the Republic of China between 1928 and 1975. He was also the leader of the Kuomintang.

Biography

In 1927, due to the inability of the Shanghai Rite to ease the growing tensions in China, the other Rites decided to intervene. The Inner Sanctum of the Templar Order sent the Black Cross to take care of a Templar turncoat, Yuri Dolinsky, who was leading a Russian army to fight Chiang.[1]

Later, the young Darius Gift was sent to China by the British Rite to deliver a package to Chiang in hopes of convincing him to join the Templar Order like his predecessor Sun Yat-sen. However, Chiang rebuffed the Templars.[2]
