Cato the Elder (Latin: Cato Major; 234 BCE – 149 BCE), born Marcus Porcius Cato, was a Roman senator and writer, noted for his defense of traditional Roman values against Hellenization. He also authored the Origines ("Origins"), a seven-volume historical work detailing the early history of ancient Rome and Italy which is now lost.

In 2012, he was included in a mnemonic set in Abstergo Industries' Project Legacy.
