Commander Cyrus was a Naval officer stationed in the Indies during the early 18th Century. Unexceptional in all other ways, he was a psychopath and became a sadistic torturer, preying upon the unfortunates he captured while hunting pirates for the British Navy.

Cyrus would spend days torturing his victims before locking them inside wooden boxes for disposal at sea. He continued his butchery unhindered, until he made the mistake of leaving legendary Master Gunner Tobias Smith alive, packing him on the HMS Demolition for shipment to the pirate hunter Lieutenant Robert Maynard. Smith was liberated by Edward Kenway and the crew of the Jackdaw before the Demolition could reach its destination.

Cyrus was eventually hunted down in vengeance by Smith with Kenway's help, and caught in his hideout on Petite Caverne Island in the Seas of Punta Guarico. After wiping his men, Smith mortally wounded Cyrus, before locking him in one of his own boxes to die.
