Temple of Sobek

The Temple of Sobek was a large temple complex and the center of the worship of the crocodile-god Sobek, located in Krokodilopolis in the Faiyum Oasis. It served as the home of Petsuchos, the embodiment of the god, as well as other tame crocodiles, fed by the priests of the temple.

History[edit | edit source]

In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa travelled to the temple, where he assassinated Sehetep, a corrupt priest who worked with soldiers serving under Berenike, the nomarch of Faiyum, to increase offerings to the temple.[1] Around the same time, Bayek also found one of the Papyrus Puzzles within the temple.[2]
