John of Montecorvino (1247 – 1328) was an Italian Franciscan missionary who founded the earliest Catholic missions in India and China as bishop of Cambaluc.

In 1289, Pope Nicholas IV appointed Montecorvino as a papal missionary to China. He arrived in China in 1293, arrived in Cambaluc in the following year. In 1307, Montecorvino was appointed bishop of Cambaluc.[1]
