The Battle of Hafrsfjord was a naval battle near Stavanger,[1] that resulted in the unification of Norway.[2]
The battle was between the forces of Harald Fairhair and those of a coalition of petty kings determined to prevent the young jarl's rise to power, including Kjotve the Cruel[1] and King Eirik of Hordaland.[3] Harald sent all his warriors and ships and thus won the battle. He was then able to unite Norway and control its trade.[4]
