The Ptolemaic dynasty was a dynasty of Macedonian Greek descent which ruled the Ptolemaic Kingdom in Egypt during the Hellenistic period. Founded by Ptolemy I Soter, a general who served under Alexander the Great, its 275-year-rule from 305 to 30 BCE was the last and longest of Egypt's dynasties before control fell to the Roman Empire.
