Mireille was the leader of the French Brotherhood of Assassins during the early 18th century, and the lover of the famous bandit Louis-Dominique Cartouche.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1721, when her lover was captured by the authorities and sentenced to be broken on the wheel, Mireille decided to save him. She bribed the executioner and joined the crowd, watching her pawn use pig blood to make everyone in attendance believe that Cartouche's internal organs had exploded under torture while he had in fact survived. Cartouche healed and discovered that Mireille was an Assassin. She then brought him into the Brotherhood and trained him.[1]

Cartouche would write his story and Mireille's intervention in a diary, which he later passed on to a younger Assassin, who took on Cartouche's name to allow his legend to live on.[2]
