Mayya al-Dabbaj was an Assassin of the Spanish Brotherhood during the Reconquista.

Biography

Born during the Renaissance, Mayya al-Dabbaj was a sly and cunning Moorish fortune-teller from Marbella. Always traveling from city to city, Mayya would practice her fortune-telling art while simultaneously gathering information she could sell to interested parties. Her mother was her inspiration; a sympathizer to the Brotherhood, she often told Mayya about their exploits and the tenets of the Creed.[1]

After witnessing the Assassin Aguilar de Nerha rescue a Muslim family from being cut down by Spanish mercenaries for mere sport, Mayya approached the Assassin. She found an instant respect for the man, which added to her admiration for the Creed, and offered her services to the Assassins. Aguilar accepted and inducted her into the Brotherhood.[1]

Behind the scenes

Mayya al-Dabbaj is a character introduced in the mobile game Assassin's Creed: Rebellion. As with many of the original roster, she shares her character design with the Romani Templar Mirela Djuric and the Trickster Animi Avatar in Abstergo Industries' secondary stage of the Animi Training Program. Her given name, "Mayya", is a variant of "Maria", while her surname "al-Dabbaj" is of Arabic origin meaning "silk trader".
