The Identity Project was a project created by Abstergo Entertainment around 2016. It centered around reliving the genetic memories of Lo Sparviero, an Assassin active during the Renaissance at the beginning of the 16th century in Italy, to collect information about the Brotherhood.[1]
Through updates released at a later date, the project was expanded with the addition of content based on other historical time periods, such as the Golden Age of Piracy[2] and the Spanish Inquisition.[3] In the latter case, the new content came from the genetic memories of the Spanish Assassin Aguilar de Nerha, which had been researched at the Abstergo Foundation Rehabilitation Center.[4]

Behind the scenes

The Identity Project serves as the in-universe counterpart to the real-world video game Assassin's Creed: Identity (2016). In early versions of the game, players would receive an email from Abstergo Entertainment, which identified them as a newly-hired employee assigned to work on the Identity Project. The project's name was not stated in the email, but was mentioned in a database entry for Abstergo Entertainment. The mail also revealed that the program was running on the Mobile Helix Navigator, despite the Memory Corridor resembling that of the Animus Omega. The content of the mail was later changed in an update, while the database entry was removed.
