Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari

The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, or simply the Frari, was a church located within Venice. The Assassin Ezio Auditore visited the Frari during the 15th century, where he learned the Climb Leap skill from local thief Rosa.

Description

One of the greatest churches in the city, it had the status of a minor basilica. It stood on the Campo dei Frari at the heart of the San Polo district. The imposing edifice was built of brick, and was one of the city's three notable churches built in the Italian Gothic style. As with many Venetian churches, the exterior was rather plain. The interior contained the only rood screen still in place in Venice. The building was completed, after almost a century of construction, in 1338.

Built by Franciscan monks, Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari (The Frari for short) is the second-largest church in Venice. Following the guidelines of St. Francis, who advocated poverty, the church has very basic exterior decoration.

It is rumoured that in the 15th Century, the Frari housed a hidden tomb, which has since collapsed.

Trivia

• This Basilica is the location for a Templar Lair.
• According to the Assassin's Creed: Revelations novel, Ezio Auditore and Sofia Sartor were married in this church in 1512.
