Abstergo Genetic Research Lab is a division of Abstergo Industries with a focus on genetic research through the use of their site WhyYou.

On the surface, the site used to allow users to perform a genealogical DNA test in order to tract their genetic profile and ethnicity. In reality, the tool was used by Abstergo, the front of the Templar Order in the 21st century, to track down individuals who have possible Assassin ancestry.

History

Noa Kim, a Korean-American descendant of the British Assassin Edward Kenway, used WhyYou which revealed his ethnicity and ancestry to Abstergo. Seeking to uncover the late Assassin's activities in Southeast Asia, the Research Lab lured Noa to Macau on the pretense of a vacation prize for using the site and later kidnapped Noa to their Macau branch, forcing him to use the Animus and relieve Edward's memories while in Asia.[1]
