Eivor surveys Ulkerthorpe Fort

Ulkerthorpe Fort was a fort based in 9th century Snotinghamscire.

History

In 876, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir assisted her old friend and mentor, Hemming Jarl and childhood companion, Vili Hemmingson, wage a siege against the Picts at Ulkerthorpe Fort. Upon their attack, Eivor fought her way towards the fort's tower and battled against the Pict chief. Killing the chief, she claimed his spear and declared victory of the siege.[1]

Afterwards, a wounded Hemming came and talked with Eivor as he divulged that he was dying from an illness. Hemming wanted Eivor's advice and wisdom on his successor and her help in talking with Vili about his inevitable end. She agreed and was told by Hemming to speak with Vili on the grounds of the fort. Thus, she left the jarl and spoke with her friend below.[1]

Throughout her travels, Eivor discovered a key among the guards at the fort and found a chest, opened it and recovered a Tungsten ingot. Within the very tower, she maneuvered her way into a locked room and discovered the ability, the "Kick of Tyr."[2]

Behind the scenes

The ruined keep is of Norman castle style, however, this is anachronistic.
