Ulf was a Viking warrior under the command of Faravid and thus of Halfdan Ragnarsson. Ulf was one of the warriors fighting against the Picts.

Biography

A foot soldier under Faravid's leadership, Ulf seemingly followed orders but grew to have disdain for those who didn't have a direct hand in the battles he fought, especially Halfdan Jarl.

Ulf first appeared when arguing with Faravid about his need for glory and his desire of his fair share of the spoils from their battles. When Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir arrived, Ulf showed quick judgment of Eivor's relationship with Halfdan and his remarks led to Eivor threathening him. As Faravid dismissed Ulf from their conversation, Ulf disrespectfully spat on the ground, in regards to Eivor's presence. When Faravid signaled to move out towards the Picts, Ulf remarked along the journey of wanting to stay in Donecaestre instead of fighting. When the Viking warriors soon chased after the Pictish scouts, Ulf shouted out his name and glory for himself aloud. After taking over Stenwege Camp, Ulf, along with Faravid and Eivor, took a share of the Frankish wine, unknown of Eivor's true intentions of her investigation. After discussing the fight against the Picts, Eivor left Faravid but overheard Ulf spouting out insults about Halfdan.[1]

When investigating the death of Halfdan's scout, Olav, Eivor and Halfdan followed Halfdan's dog, Beonton, towards the possible perpertuators. Beonton led them towards Petuaria Ruins and upon further investigations, Halfdan's suspicions appeared correct as they found riches and spoils he deserved as jarl. Upon hearing voices, Halfdan and Eivor found a way out of the underground ruins and saw Ulf with his men. Despite Ulf's warm salutations, Halfdan immediately accused Ulf for the crimes of betrayal and thievery. Ulf excused Halfdan's findings by stating that Faravid gifted the materials to him and his men. However, with the death of Olav, Ulf admitted his mistake for killing his brother in arms by assuming Olav was a thief. Asking for Eivor's help, Ulf begged her to help Halfdan see reason. Nevertheless, as Eivor made her decision, Ulf's fate was sealed as he died for his actions. After Ulf's death, Halfdan, out of breath and overly cautious, told Eivor to keep looking into Faravid and to see where his allegiance lies.[2]

Behind the Scenes

  • When deciding Ulf's fate, Eivor's decision may have resulted in the deaths of Ulf with his men by Eivor and Halfdan or the death of Ulf solely by Halfdan's war hammer.
